Engaged by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), AVOR was proud to design and superintend the new senior wing at Bass Coast Specialist School. The project demanded a careful balance of cost efficiency, durability, and a highly engaging learning environment tailored to students with diverse and complex needs.
A robust material palette was selected to withstand high-use conditions while maintaining a warm and welcoming character. This resilience is paired with a soft, calming aesthetic and extensive use of glazing, drawing natural light deep into learning spaces and supporting a sense of openness and wellbeing.
Breakout zones are integrated along circulation corridors, creating flexible, smaller-scale learning environments that support varied teaching approaches and student needs. These informal spaces encourage interaction, retreat, and focused learning within a safe and supportive setting.
The result is a considered, future-focused educational facility that prioritises inclusivity, durability, and calm—enhancing both learning outcomes and day-to-day experience for students and staff.
